Tani Williams is a proud matriarch of the Lake Babine Nation, from the community of Fort Babine. As a dedicated Family Gatherings Coordinator at the Dze L K’ant Friendship Centre Society, Tani embodies the spirit of her heritage, belonging to the Frog Clan (Jihl’tse’yuu).
Tani’s journey has been shaped by her greatest achievement: becoming a mother. She credits her child that inspired her to embrace a brighter path and to actively engage with her cultural roots. Tani’s commitment to personal growth is evident in her pursuit of education; she successfully graduated from high school and continues to seek new opportunities for learning and connection.
In her role as the Family Gatherings Coordinator, Tani is passionate about fostering community connections and sharing cultural teachings. She is honored to attend Potlatches in Burns Lake, deepening her ties to her traditions and community.
Tani brings a wealth of knowledge and skills to her role, including her ability to harvest and her growing understanding of her ancestral language. Her dedication to preserving and sharing her culture not only enriches her life but also serves as an inspiration to others in the community.
As a matriarch and leader, Tani Williams is committed to nurturing the next generation and ensuring that the values and traditions of the Lake Babine Nation are honored and passed down. Through her work, she continues to uplift her community and foster a sense of belonging and pride among families.
The Family Gathering program is mandated to support families to work with communities of the Bulkley Valley, addressing the social determinants of health and wellbeing. Through the program, Tani creates opportunities for families to come together, celebrating culture, food, and traditions in a safe and welcoming environment.
